Orta Doğu Teknik Üniversitesi Enformatik Enstitüsü; Lüksemburg Üniversitesi liderliğinde Avrupalı ortaklar tarafından, Yüksek Başarımlı Hesaplama (YBH) alanında Avrupa genelinde ilk yüksek lisans programının oluşturulması için Avrupa Yüksek Başarımlı Hesaplama Ortak Girişimi (EuroHPC) tarafından desteklenen konsorsiyuma dahil oldu.
ODTÜ’nün katılımcı üniversite olarak yer aldığı, 2022 güz döneminde başlaması planlanan, hızla gelişen YBH (High Performance Computing-HPC), yüksek başarımlı veri analitiği ve yapay zeka gibi alanlarda öğrencilere yepyeni kariyer perspektifleri kazandıracak program komisyonunda TÜBİTAK da çalışmalarda bulunacak.
Avrupa'dan çeşitli üniversiteler, araştırma ve süperbilgisayar merkezleri ile endüstriyel ortakların oluşturduğu konsorsiyumun tasarlayacağı yüksek lisans programı; YBH ve benzer alanlardaki mevcut ve gelecek nesil teknolojilerin tasarımı, dağıtımı, işletimi ve kullanımı konusunda yetkin öğrenciler yetiştirmeyi; akademi ve endüstride farklı stratejik alanlarda YBH kullanımı ve bilgi transferi konularında yetkin uzmanlar yetiştirerek endüstri ve akademideki YBH faaliyetlerini birbirine bağlamayı hedefliyor.
Avrupa'daki üniversiteler, araştırma merkezleri ve sanayi sektörü arasındaki hareketliliği güçlendirerek bilimsel ve endüstriyel hedef gruplarına ulaşılması, kamuda ve özel sektörde ilgili alanlarda görev alacak kilit elemanlar yetiştirilebilmesi amaçlanan YBH odaklı yüksek lisans programının müfredatı; mevcut veya ilerde açılabilecek yeni programlara tam veya kısmi entegrasyonu mümkün kılacak şekilde modüler bir yapıda oluşturulacak.
EuroHPC Ortak Girişimi’nin temel YBH becerilerinin geliştirilmesini desteklemek ve Avrupa bilim ve endüstrisine eğitim yoluyla katkıda bulunmak yönündeki stratejisinin bir parçası olarak; üniversiteler, araştırma ve süper bilgisayar merkezleri, endüstriyel ortaklar, çeşitli KOBİ'ler ve destek veren diğer bileşenlerden oluşan konsorsiyumun geliştireceği yüksek lisans programı için ilk aşamada Lüksemburg Üniversitesi, Katalonya Politeknik Üniversitesi, Politecnico di Milano, Erlangen-Nürnberg Üniversitesi, Sorbonne Üniversitesi, Sofya St. Kliment Ohridski Üniversitesi, Università della Svizzera Italiana, ve Kraliyet Teknoloji Enstitüsü diploma verecek.
EuroHPC Ortak Girişimi Hakkında
Avrupa Yüksek Başarımlı Hesaplama (EuroHPC) Ortak Girişimi, Avrupa Birliği'nin süper hesaplama alanında dünya lideri olabilmesine katkı sağlamak amacıyla; AB bünyesinde dünya çapında entegre bir süper hesaplama ve veri altyapısı oluşturmak ve geliştirmek, oldukça rekabetçi ve yenilikçi bir YBH ekosistemi yaratıp gelişimini desteklemek misyonuyla; 29 Avrupa ülkesinin desteğiyle 2018 yılında kuruldu.

METU Graduate School of Informatics has joined the consortium of European partners to design and implement a Master's Program in High-Performance Computing (HPC) for the first time in Europe, supported by the European High-Performance Computing (EuroHPC) Joint Undertaking and led by the University of Luxembourg.
In addition to METU, TÜBİTAK will also take part in the program commission, which will provide students with brand new career perspectives in the rapidly expanding fields of High-Performance Computing, High-Performance Data Analytics (HPDA), and Artificial Intelligence.
The master's program, which is expected to start offering courses as of Fall 2022 and will be designed by a consortium of various European universities, research/supercomputing centers, and industrial partners, aims to educate students who are competent in the design, deployment, operation, and the use of current and future generation HPC and HPC-related technologies, and to educate experts skilled in HPC and knowledge transfer in different strategic domains of industry and academia, thereby linking HPC activities in these two fields.
By promoting mobility between European universities, research centers, and industry, the initiative aims to reach out to scientific and industrial target groups as well as training personnel that can work in key positions in the private and public sectors. The curriculum of this HPC-centered master's program will be designed in a modular structure to facilitate full or partial integration of the modules into new or existing graduate programs.
As part of the strategy of the EuroHPC Joint Undertaking to support the development of HPC skills and contribute to European science and industry through education, the consortium led by the University of Luxembourg consists of universities, research, and supercomputing centers, industrial partners, various SMEs, and other supporting partners. For now, eight universities will award degrees at the end of the program: University of Luxembourg, Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, Politecnico di Milano, Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg, Sorbonne Université, Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski, Università della Svizzera Italiana, and Kungliga Tekniska Hoegskolan.
