ODTÜ Tasarım Fabrikası; tasarım, mühendislik, bilişim, eğitim, sosyal ya da idari bilimler alanında öğrenim gören öğrencilerin disiplinlerarası çalışmalar yürüterek iş ve sanayi dünyasının yanı sıra STK’larla iş birliğinde, tasarım odaklı düşünmeyi ve ürün geliştirmeyi öğrenmelerine yönelik olarak Kalkınma Bakanlığı desteğiyle kuruldu.
Öğrencilerin disiplinler arası takımlar halinde yürüttükleri tasarım projeleri için mekan ve cihaz altyapısı sunmayı hedefleyen Tasarım Fabrikası;
- yenilikçi ürün fikirleri ve prototipler geliştirmeye yönelik eğitim etkinlikleri düzenlenmesini,
- tasarım, teknoloji ve yenilikçilik alanlarında en güncel teknolojinin sunduğu imalat yöntemlerini kullanarak uygulamalı araştırma projelerinin geliştirilmesini,
- üniversite, teknokent, sanayi ve toplumsal kuruluşların gerçek problemlerini yeniden tanımlayarak çözüm üretmek üzere işbirliği yapılmasını,
- teknolojinin sunduğu en yeni ürün geliştirme ve prototipleme yöntemlerinin, üniversitemizde faaliyet göstermekte olan ilgili birimlerin hizmetine sunulmasını amaçlıyor.
Çok farklı disiplinlerden gelen akademisyen, araştırmacı ve uzmanların görev aldığı Tasarım Fabrikası; bütün disiplinlerden ve seviyelerden üniversite öğrencilerinin katılabileceği, öğrencilerin bu güne kadar biriktirdikleri teorik ve pratik becerilerini yenilikçi ürün fikirlerine, çözüm önerilerine dönüştürebileceği eğitim programları düzenliyor. METU Design Factory was established for students to learn how to develop products, conduct interdisciplinary works in cooperation with the business and industry world as well as NGOs, and have a comprehensive knowledge of design thinking. Founded with the support of the Ministry of Development, METU DF is ideal for students studying in the fields of design, engineering, informatics, education, social and administrative sciences.
The aims of the Design Factory, which offers students product development infrastructures such as places to work at and devices to work with so that the interdisciplinary teams formed by these students can carry out their design projects, are as follows:
- Organizing educational activities to develop innovative product ideas and prototypes,
- Developing applied research projects using the most up-to-date technology production methods in the fields of design, technology, and innovation,
- Redefining the real problems of universities, technoparks, industries, and social institutions, and collaborating to find solutions for them,
- Providing the relevant units operating at our university with the latest product development and prototyping technologies.
With its academics, researchers, and experts from lots of different disciplines, Design Factory organizes educational programs in which university students from all disciplines and all levels can participate and turn their theoretical and practical skills into innovative product ideas and solutions. The "Collaborative Design" course, which aims at teaching innovative approaches and promoting the teams and organizations from different disciplines that the students will work with in the future, is one of the educational programs METU DF offers to students.
